Laura got to pick this trip. She wanted to go somewhere cheap, see something exotic, and find some excellent scuba diving. There are few places in the world that fit this bill as well as the combination of Thailand and Cambodia. We decided to make this almost a 3 week trip due to the travel distance from Louisiana (easyily 24 hours of travel time). We used the excellent "Thailand" from Lonely Planet as our guidebook. I only regret that we didn't have enough time to travel more by land. We wanted to hike the beautiful foothills of the Himalayas and see the hill tribes, we wanted to see the famed Angkor complex, and we wanted to go diving near the world famous Similan Islands. Unfortunately these places were not near each other, thus frequent flights were necessary. Luckily, the flights were incredibly cheap (with the exception of the Thailand - Cambodia flight which cost about $300 round trip). From the delicious Thai cuisine to the beauty of Angkor, from the warmth of the people to the great diving, this was an amazing trip. We travelled with our friends Jeff & Susan, who we'd met on a trip to Turkey in 1998. So...if you see pictures of other people besides my wife and me....that's them! It was great travelling with a couple of friends...more experiences to share. Jeff, for example, was a pro at balloon animals and was a great hit at the Karen Village (see Hiking in Northern Thailand). If you don’t care to
