Appearance: Meserach appears Celestially as a large brown field mouse with white, feathery wings and a golden halo. He walks slowly on all fours, one paw clenched about a wooden cane with a golden mouse head. He wears a strange white bonnet with pink ribbons, along with horn-rimmed spectacles. Around his neck is a black choker with a large golden bell on it. He rarely takes corporeal form, but when he does he appears in the form of a short, elderly black man of indeterminate age, clad in a hooded white robe, deaf and blind. This form also relies on a wooden cane to get around.
History: Meserach was created before the Fall and was originally a Cherub of Dreams. Meserach's job was to watch over the fledgling dreams of the equally fledgling mortals. Meserach had no complaints about his job - in fact, he liked it. It got him close to Morie, a female Seraph of Fear that he had had his eye on for a while, so he was more than happy to help guard the dreams of humankind and quietly work his way into the affection of his Seraph love.
Then came the Revolution. In all the chaos, Meserach stuck by his post in the Marches, trying to shield the dreamscapes from the worst of the fighting. He was a good, loyal Cherub after all. Then the fighting swept past his position. When the dreamscapes were threatened, Meserach took action; personally soul-killing several Servitors of Stone, War, and Destiny in a fit of berserker rage. He screamed for aid and a contingent from Holy Fear swept down on the beleaguered attackers. The fighting was intense and Meserach was in the midst of the combat, bashing heads with the best of them.
The fighting went back and forth for a while, until it happened. Morie, turning from the soul-killing of a Friend of the Fighters in an ambush, was soul-killed by a Kyriotate of Stone. Meserach snapped. He savaged the Kyriotate, then proceeded to soul-kill each and every angel on both sides in a red-eyed fit of absolute rage. When the rage cleared, Meserach alone stood on a field in which friend and foe alike lay soul-dead. Meserach is said to have wept at that point, cradling Morie in his arms long after she had soul-died.
That was where the Servitors of Fear found him after they had driven Blandine's angels from the Marches, still weeping over Morie's body. They were shocked at the carnage, and they took the broken Cherub to their Archangel. None knows what passed between Beleth and Meserach, but when it was done, Meserach returned to the new Heaven, having abandoned his former Mistress. He ended up working under Vephar for millennia. When Vephar slew Oannes and was slain shortly afterwards, Meserach get swept up with many of Vephar's old Servitors and found himself working under Israfel, the new Archangel of The Symphony.
A couple of centuries passed before Meserach distinguished himself enough to earn a Distinction in Israfel's service. When that happened, Maeranae (the Angel of Music and Israfel's right hand) told Israfel of the legends of Meserach's battle in the Marches, and showed her Superior how much Meserach still suffered in silence. Israfel was moved to pity, and she nominated Meserach for the word of Quiet in response to his personality change. Quiet is a little-used Word, so there was no problem in getting the Council to accept it - except, perhaps, from Beleth, who still remembered the Servitors of hers killed by Meserach in his blind rage. From that point on, Meserach worked diligently in his new Mistress's service, earning several attunements and Distinctions, and finally being placed at the head of the Symphonic Researchers, one of Israfel's Triad of angels overseeing the rest of her Servitors.

Meserach's Rage
It is rumored that Meserach's rage, unleashed long ago in the fearsome battle in the Marches, can still be tapped. Some speculate that the Angel of Quiet is only quiet so as to suppress his berserk rage. It is feared that if Meserach ever speaks, he may erupt once again. No one is really sure, except perhaps Maeranae. Sorantine would like to be there if that ever happened, as she believes that Meserach's rage could be a potent weapon.
Meserach has no comment on any of this.

Personality
It is hard to know: Meserach doesn't ever speak. It is easy to see the inner pain and hurt in his eyes and walk, but he doesn't know how to express himself. The other angels of the Symphony just try to help him as best they can. For his part, Meserach occasionally smiles when his inner pain allows him to perceive this help.
