The number one priority in education is
always the individual child. Each student is special and
possesses gifts in one area or another. They deserve the
best quality education and respect available. A teacher
should take advantage of each student's unique gifts and
give students opportunities to create their own knowledge
from a wide variety of resources. In that way, the teacher
becomes a facilitator of learning instead of a sole
knowledge base.
Instruction should be varied to promote
interest, enthusiasm, and to meet various students' learning
styles. Open-ended activities, hands-on activities, and
cooperative learning are some of the best ways to vary
instruction. It is also very important to provide students
with opportunities to apply their learning to real life
situations. Finally, students deserve to be challenged to
think divergently, critically, and creatively in order to be
successful in today's world.
