With a population of about 20 million, comprising of a harmonious multi-ethnic mix of Malays - some, descendents of the Bugis and Javanese, Chinese, Indian and others, promises a colourful potpourri of culture traditions. The Wayang Kulit or Shadow play, is a unique form of theatre inpired by the great Hindu epics, the Ramayama and Mahabrata. The tok dalang manipulates the puppets (made from buffalo gide and mounted on rattan sticks) and modulates his voice to create drama and suspense. Another famous performance is Ghazal which played on violin and rebana (drums), Kuda Kepang, and Wau Bulan. All are usually performed regularly during cultural shows and weddings
