River's Edge Aviaries

River's Edge Aviary is a small aviary on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, minutes from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Exclusively breeding Macaws, Cockatoos, Amazons, Eclectus, African Greys, Conures and many more. The love and lots of attention our babies receive is something that we pride ourselves with. On August 29, 2005 River's Edge Aviary was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Our aviary received 160 mph winds and 15 feet of flood water and as a result we lost our entire aviary and our precious parrots. We are rebuilding our aviary and lives in Erwinville, Louisiana with the help of God and our parrot friends. If a large parrot is your choice then there is no question the macaw is the perfect choice. Macaws are among the largest of all flying birds in the world. They have wonderful personalities, great potential for speech and beautiful color. There are many species available so your feather color choice is as diverse as their nature. The Blue and Gold and Greenwing are known to be as gentle as the family dog. The Scarlet makes as wonderful a pet as the others but just require a little more daily socialization. Macaws must have an assorted diet, a large cage and lots of quality time with the family. Once the macaw finds a place in the heart of your family then you will understand why they are called the “gentle giants”.

The Eclectus is one of the most beautiful parrots in the world. Together with their beauty and personality they make wonderful pets. The male is predominately green with a deep orange beak and the female is a wonderful combination of red and majestic purple. Their talking ability is comparable to the African Grey. The personality of the Eclectus is what makes them the great companion that they are. Some have said that they are lazy and dull, but in our experience this is totally untrue. They love to interact with their family and are quite active. They aren't very noisy birds either, a few quakes a day is all. In our opinion the Eclectus tops the list for the best companion parrot!

The cockatoo is the lap bird of the parrot world. They love to be the center of attention and will demand it. These parrots are quite entertaining, they are one of the most animated parrots in the avian world. The beauty of these parrots is their loving personality, but one must understand the nature of the cockatoo before they are obtain one. Truly they have quite a bit of similarity with a 2 year old child. Some of the cockatoos can have great talking ability. Cockatoos have quite a bit to offer, color, personality and attitude. No parrot owner would be complete without this parrot to share their life.
