Keep On Duckin’:
Don Markstein’s Home Page
The usual: Plugs for for various projects, pictures of the wife and kids, that sort of stuff.
If you're here just to download my resume, here it is.
NOTE: As of May, 2002, this page is no longer being updated. Don's new personal page is at www.uncadonald.com
That's me on the left, of course. Below are the women in my life. Left to right, my wife, GiGi Dane, and our two daughters, Karen (18) and Rachel (19).
I guess you probably think Rachel looks a little odd for a member of her generation. Well, actually, I'm using a stand-in because she doesn't want me to put her picture on the Internet. That's Rachel's great-great-great grandmother, Esther Levey Davidsohn (who died in 1890) standing in for her. Amazing, isn't it, how these family resemblances echo down through the generations. They could be twins — right down to the clothing and hair styles. Really, no kidding. Twins. And if Rachel didn't agree, she'd let me post her picture.
The newest family member is Nathan, Rachel's son, born November 6, 2001. Pictures can be seen at Baby's First Web Page.
I've got a bunch of enterprises of one sort or another on the Web. Here are the banners I made to advertise them.
Don Markstein's Toonopedia™ is a hypertext encyclopedia of comics and animation. It currently contains over 400 articles, totaling something in the neighborhood of a quarter-million words, on everything from Adam Strange to Zot!, and it's still growing.
Pirates: The CD-ROM is an anthology I edited, containing about half a gigabyte of stories, poems, art, games, etc., about pirates — all public domain or otherwise available for free use, and thus legally — ahem — piratable. The links lead to a brief description.
Your Daily Dose Links Page is designed for people taking breaks from work, hitting the Net for a few minutes while they drink their morning coffee, that sort of thing. It links to hundreds of cartoons, jokes, puzzles, columns, etc. that post new content every weekday.
Salty Jack's Piratical Books is one of those Amazon.com sites you see all over the Internet. This one specializes in books about pirates, which (as you may figure from what I chose as the theme of my first CD-ROM anthology) is sort of an interest of mine.
Here's some stuff I wrote.
"Forgotten But Not Gone" — an overview of the first 500 issues of Walt Disney's Comics & Stories (1940 - 83).
"Wabbit Twacks" — a survey of the early development of Bugs Bunny.
"H.M.S. Pinfeather" — a rather specialized piece, aimed mainly at Gilbert & Sullivan fans who also appreciate the work of Carl Barks.
"Continuity Cops" — a summary of the first two seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
"The Menace from Within" — another piece from my tenure as writer of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book.
"Hunting Season" — I'm a hunter and proud to admit it. I just hunt different game from most folks.
"Why Should Johnny Read?" — a couple of thoughts on the direction of modern education.
"The Old Neighborhood Haunted House" — a brief nostalgia piece.
"The Manchurian Candidate" — my thoughts on a book that other people, for reasons unknown, consider a classic.
"Spud" — Fiction, approx. 1,000 words.
