Britney Spears has recovered from a case of flu that forced a five-day delay in the start of her tour.

Tour preparations were slowed after a doctor prescribed a week of rest for the ailing 19-year-old pop star. A publicist with Concerts West said Wednesday that Spears has recovered and started rehearsals in Los Angeles.

The new starting point for the tour is MCI Center in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 31. Spears is scheduled to perform 29 concerts in 28 cities over 50 days.

Concert dates in Miami and Tampa, Fla., have been rescheduled for mid-December and six additional performances have been added in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, East Rutherford, N.J., Raleigh, N.C., Atlanta and New Orleans.


Snoop Dogg Charged in Drug Case

Rap star Snoop Dogg was charged with marijuana possession after officers stopped two of his tour buses for speeding and found several bags of marijuana.

State Highway Patrol troopers said the bust occurred after a traffic stop on Interstate 90 west of Cleveland on Wednesday.

In one bus, they found Snoop Dogg, 29, and said they smelled burnt marijuana. Drug-sniffing dogs found six bags of marijuana weighing about 200 grams in the cargo hold of the bus.

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was charged with possession of marijuana, a minor misdemeanor with a maximum $100 penalty, and possession of drug paraphernalia, which carries a maximum sentence of $250 and 30 days in jail. Two other passengers also were charged.

Lt. Gary Lewis said Broadus was "very cooperative" with the troopers and was released.

The rapper is traveling on a concert tour titled "Puff, Puff, Pass 2001." Its name refers to what's considered the proper etiquette for sharing marijuana.

Snoop Dogg's publicity agency did not return calls for comment.



Even Tiger Woods Needs ID at Tourney

In morning darkness at Disney, Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara were headed to the first tee at the Magnolia Course when two security guards asked for identification.

Woods, perhaps the most recognizable athlete in the world, held out his driver's license, but that wasn't enough. They wanted to see his PGA Tour badge.

"I don't have it," Woods said Wednesday after a brief search through his pockets.

The guards looked at each other, unsure what to do next, and decided to let him through the checkpoint.

"I think he's won this tournament a couple of times," O'Meara assured them. "He's a pretty good player."

The checkpoint to the Magnolia Course at Walt Disney World is part of a new security measure, although the guards could hardly be blamed if they didn't recognize Woods. He is returning to the PGA Tour for the first time in five weeks at the National Car Rental Classic.

There were no tickets for Wednesday's practice rounds, and Disney this year tightened its security by not allowing weekly ticket-holders onto the course until Thursday. All spectators are subject to having bags checked, and that included the golf bags of Woods and O'Meara before they were allowed onto the course.

Woods, who already has clinched the PGA of America's player of the year award, will be trying to win for the sixth time this year, and the Magnolia and Palm courses have treated him kindly. He has won twice in five years, and a year ago tied for third when Duffy Waldorf had a 10-under 62 in the final round.



Louis-Dreyfus to Star in Sitcom

Former "Seinfeld" cast member Julia Louis-Dreyfus is working on a sitcom of her own.

NBC announced Thursday that Louis-Dreyfus, who played Jerry Seinfeld's gal pal Elaine, will star in a midseason comedy tentatively titled "22 Minutes With Eleanor Riggs."

In the series, Louis-Dreyfus plays a Los Angeles club singer whose life is examined in what NBC called a "22-minute snapshot." Her circle includes a married older sister (Lauren Bowles), an ex-boyfriend (Steve Carell) and a current flame (Darren Boyd).

The network has ordered 12 episodes of the series, created by her husband, "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Brad Hall. He'll serve as executive producer along with Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner and Caryn Mandabach of "Roseanne" and "Cybill" fame.

So far, attempts by "Seinfeld" co-stars to create their own TV magic have fallen short. "The Michael Richards Show" was quickly canceled last season, and Jason Alexander's new "Bob Patterson" on ABC hasn't fared well with critics or in the ratings.



New Spin on Mystery Science Theater

After years of exile in outer space, the comic minds behind "Mystery Science Theater 3000" are turning toward Middle-earth for their next parody.

Former writers and performers of the cult cable-television favorite are re-teaming for "The Adventures of Edward the Less," an illustrated streaming video series premiering Oct. 25 on www.scifi.com.

The 13 five-minute episodes are a loose takeoff on J.R.R. Tolkien's "Middle-earth" books, "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Instead of diminutive hobbits on a quest for a powerful ring, Scifi.com says "Edward the Less" features "an average little guy ... who yearns to trade in his fairy-tale existence for a taste of real life."

Scifi.com is the official Web site of the Sci-Fi Channel, which carried "Mystery Science Theater 3000" from 1997-99. The Twin Cities-produced show featured a trapped-in-space human and his homemade robots mocking cheesy movies, such as "Soultaker" and "Invasion of the Neptune Men."

Giuliani: Film Criticism Is Premature

Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani attended a screening of Arnold Schwarzenegger's new movie and said criticism of the film by firefighters, police officers and Colombian activists is premature.

"Let's see the movie before criticizing it," Giuliani said Wednesday evening outside the Ziegfield Theatre, where he attended the advance showing with former fire commissioner Thomas Von Essen.

The former mayor hasn't commented publicly on the film since seeing it, a Giuliani spokeswoman said Thursday.

In the movie, "Collateral Damage," Schwarzenegger plays a Los Angeles firefighter seeking vengeance against Colombian terrorists who killed his family.

Fire and police union officials have expressed concerns that Giuliani's appearance at the screening might appear to link a Sept. 11 charity to the film.

In an initial press release promoting the screening, Warner Bros. said Giuliani would appear "in association with the Twin Towers Fund and Twin Towers Board." Giuliani set up the fund last year for the families of firefighters and police lost in the attacks.


Man Breaks Into Jackson Dressing Room

Someone got past Janet Jackson's velvet rope.

While the pop diva was entertaining fans Wednesday night at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, a 19-year-old man was allegedly breaking into her dressing room, police said.

Mario Backman of Manhattan was charged with third-degree burglary after the singer's managers found him inside Jackson's dressing room, said Detective Sgt. John Giambrone, a Nassau County police spokesman.

Backman had allegedly taken some stuffed animals, an FDNY cap and correspondence, police said Thursday.

The 35-year-old singer, who released the hit album "The Velvet Rope" in 1997, is nearing the end of a long tour in support of her latest album, "All for You."

Backman was released without bail and ordered to return to court on Monday.


Judge OKs Spielberg Restraining Order

A man who said he only wanted to be in the movies was ordered to stay away from Steven Spielberg for three years after he was jailed for trespassing at Spielberg's offices.

Christopher Richard Hahn, 30, of Saskatchewan, must stay 150 yards away from the director and his family, as well as his home and workplace.

Hahn was arrested Jan. 11 after authorities said he tried to meet Spielberg by breaking into the director's offices at the DreamWorks SKG studio in Studio City. Superior Court Judge Alan Haber granted the restraining order Jan. 16, according to court records.

When Hahn was arrested, he gave a phony name and birth date and claimed to have been an extra in last year's film "Ocean's Eleven" and the NBC drama "Third Watch," according to documents Spielberg's lawyers filed. Hahn told the guard who caught him that he'd been on the property at least 20 times and would do anything to get into the movies, according to the documents.

Hahn was charged with misdemeanor trespassing and giving false information to a police officer. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two months in jail and three years probation.

Hahn said he never threatened anyone or intended any harm.


Brandy Reveals She Secretly Married

Brandy is all grown-up - the former teen star is a now married woman.

The singer-actress revealed Tuesday that she wed music producer Robert Smith last year.

"I've fallen in love with a very warm, gentle, understanding and focused person," Brandy, who turns 23 on Feb. 11, said in a statement. "This summer we married quietly. A new experience, a new day for me - I couldn't be happier!"

Brandy was 16 when she released her self-titled debut album, which sold over 1 million copies. Her hits include "I Wanna Be Down" and the No. 1 hit "The Boy Is Mine," with Monica.

She also starred in her own sitcom, UPN's "Moesha," which ran for five seasons before being canceled last year.

Brandy is due to release her third album, "Full Moon," next month, after a four-year hiatus.


Doherty Issued Vegas Marriage License

Actress Shannen Doherty has been issued a marriage license in Las Vegas.

Doherty, 30, and Richard Salomon were issued a license from the Clark County Marriage License Bureau on Jan. 24, but according to the county's Web site, the license hasn't been recorded.

The couple has up to a year in which to use the license, Cheryl Vernon, marriage bureau spokeswoman, said Tuesday.

"It's up to whoever performs the ceremony to have the license recorded within 10 days," she said.

Doherty starred in television's "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Charmed."

Doherty's marriage in 1993 to Ashley Hamilton, son of actor George Hamilton, ended six months later.

Doherty does not have a publicist.
