+ celebrations this quarter
On April 25th, I rear-ended a van that, apparently feeling unable to merge, had stopped at the top of a highway exit ramp. Fortunately, the other driver was not hurt and was able to drive away; unfortunately, neither my car nor I was so lucky. Because the cost of repairs would have been more than the value of the car, my car was considered a total loss. I suffered a broken arm and nose, and various other cuts and bruises, and now bear two scars to serve as a reminder of what happened.
In the meantime, just prior to the accident, I had concluded that I am not hospitable enough to work in the hospitality industry, so I had decided to quit my job as a hotel desk clerk. My subsequent need for health insurance kept me at that job for another two months, however. Now, though, I am at home, pursuing a life-long ambition of writing a book. I hope to conclude this project within a year as I still plan to attend graduate school in the fall of 2001.
After being quite busy in the late spring, Glenn again faced a period of having too much time on his hands in the summer. In May, he completed his teaching practicum in a one-month session. Then, in June, he completed his major draft of his thesis and submitted it to his advisor at GMU for review. Upon completion of his thesis, he took a PlayStation vacation, but he is now gearing up to begin his fall semester and return to substitute teaching. He is also teaching Microsoft Word and PowerPoint at a local business college during their summer quarter.
