So, you wanna be a web master...

I learned HTML from a book and wrote almost every character of code in this site myself. You don't have to do that--although I figure I have better bragging rights since I did. Regardless, this page will not teach you HTML. If you want to learn it, you can easily get the basic information from a book or another web site; there are also many programs and servers that allow you to create web pages without knowing HTML. I'm going to let you take care of those details yourself. My purpose here is to share some thoughts and resources related to web page design.

Design, Copyright, & Disclaimer Information

Before we get to you, let's talk about me... 8^)

about my design: I design a web page just as I decorate a Christmas tree. Part of me admires the color-coordinated, thematic trees that some people (or at least stores) have--but such schemes do not allow for the ornament that I made when I was ten, the dancing mouse or that marks "Our First Christmas," or that was a gift from a dear friend. As such, my own tree has always been a multicolor hodgepodge. So too with my web site: I looked at sets of coordinating colors, fonts, and graphics but realized that such packages were too limiting--as they do not allow for a graphic such as the one here, which serves no purpose but to make me laugh. Thus, although I do attempt some continuity, understand that my pages are intentionally eclectic (in both design and content).

optimal viewing of my site: I used to display the message, "This site is best viewed with Netscape Communicator," until I realized that, to be accurate, the statement should read, "This site is best viewed with my computer." I create it on my computer, after all, and my computer has the particular combination of fonts, colors, resolution, and screen size on which I base my design. Thus, even if others use Netscape as their browser, my site may still look bad on their computers. I try my best, however, to design my site such that it should at least be legible with any browser. If you have a problem viewing my site with your browser, please let me know so that I can try to correct it--then drop by my place, so that you can see my site in all its glory on my computer. In the meantime, I have two recommendations: One, if you need a web browser, download Netscape Communicator (click on the button to the left to do so). Two, if you are creating a web page, try to make it non-browser specific (click on the button to the right for more information on how to do this).

PLEASE RESPECT MY EFFORT...
webhead This web site is a labor of love. I spend hours working on it: composing the text, selecting the links, designing the lay-out, creating or modifying the graphics, writing the HTML code. To copy any material from this site, then, is to rob me not only of my property but also of my time and effort. If you would like to use material from my site, whether it be code, text, or images, please contact me first to obtain my permission and information regarding proper attribution. I hold the copyright to all site contents, unless otherwise noted.

about my links: This web site includes numerous links to web pages contained in other sites. I choose these external pages with care and periodically verify both their URLs and their content. However, my inclusion of a particular page from another site does not imply my endorsement of any other content on that site. Furthermore, sites' contents change. I am not responsible for the content of any web page outside of my own site. I do not wish to link to poor sites; if you find a link within my site that is not functional or that leads to a site with questionable content, please let me know.
