AutoBackup 98

Download Here or use Mirror Site Version 1.2 (9-Sep-2000)

Use Microsoft Windowsä 98 Backup and Scheduled Tasks utilities to start
unattended backup jobs. Requires the English version of Microsoft Windowsä 98.

What does AutoBackup 98 do?

The Microsoft Windowsä 98 Backup utility provides a simple and convenient method to backup valuable data to tape or disk. However, it does not provide any command line options to allow users to schedule backups using the Microsoft Windowsä 98 Scheduled Tasks utility. AutoBackup 98 simply launches the Backup utility and runs the specified Backup job. This allows you to add AutoBackup 98 to the Scheduled Tasks in order to run these backup jobs automatically. Upon completion, an optional status report is displayed.

How does AutoBackup 98 work?

After installing AutoBackup, run the Windowsä 98 Backup utility. Create a job, specifying the files to backup, target location and various user options. From the Tools menu, select Preferences… and disable the checkbox "Show startup dialog…" Under Job | Options, check the box "Perform unattended backup…" on the Report tab. Give the job a name such as "Full Backup" or "Differential" and save it. It’s a good idea to test the backup job first before scheduling it to run automatically.

Run the Windowsä 98 Scheduled Tasks utility. Add a new task and specify AutoBackup as the program to run. Before clicking Finish on the Scheduled Task Wizard, check the box "Open advanced properties for the task…" Add the command line option /J="Job Name" to the Run: box, where "Job Name" is the name of job you previously saved in Backup. Be sure to put double quotes ( " ) around the job name if there are spaces in the name. Optionally, you can specify /S (silent) on the command line to NOT display the status report upon completion. The default is to display the status report. Here is an example:

"C:\Program Files\AutoBackup 98\AutoBackup.exe" /J="Differential" /S

There are two new optional command line switches available under version 1.1. Specify /R="Your Program" where "Your Program" is the full path to any valid windows program or batch file. This program will be run when the backup is complete. Specify /SHUTDOWN to shut down windows when the backup is complete. You cannot use both of these options at the same time.
