Before the great rain of meteors brought onto the land by the destructive power of the Grimoire Magica, Wayreth came into the world as a young half-elf paladin, eager to learn the ways of the adventurer. He found early on that many of the skills needed for coping with adventures could be gained by killing the cityfolk of rune. In time, Wayreth became an accomplished paladin. He then learned from the wise Lord Agrippa that the secret powers of the black tourmaline could be combined and focused into a person to allow the gaining of more knowledge than could otherwise be had. Wayreth soon made the pilgrimage to Verity Isle to collect the amount he needed for such an infusion. Upon returning to Rune, Agrippa asked him what path he would like to walk next, and to this Wayreth simply answered "wizard". And then Wayreth was taken aback by the great volumes of knowledge and wisdom passing into him. He never imagined that so much insight could be gained by a single man. But this also left him weakened, unable to sort out all of the other knowledge he'd gained as a paladin from the newly obtained wizard skills. He would have to sort this out in time. It was soon after this transformation that Araphwael, leader of the newly formed clan Section Five, offered to take the wizard Wayreth in. This offer he accepted gladly, and soon Wayreth was well on his way to advancing to the mastery of the higher points of wizardry. After the great catastrophy brought on by the witches, Wayreth sought out new places to gain knowledge, eventually mastering many of the paladin skills that he'd only before practiced idly. Soon he was incorporating wizardly magic with paladin might into his battles. Then Wayreth sought to gain the treasured Vandemaar's Trunk, known of by many and owned by few. If rumor was believed, the outcast Lord Maldra knew where to get these, though he devilishly guarded his source and only turned one up ever so rarely. And Lord Maldra required a copious amount of services to be performed for him before he would part with such a valuable treasure. Even so, Wayreth was able to procure one with not so much difficulty as he expected. It was after this that Wayreth set his sights on obtaining enough tourmalines to gain another level of power. The isle of Verity was barred from those of expanded knowledge, and the only place left to gain this treasure was the dreaded Wizardry Isle, home of the madman Simon Bloodbane and a thousand other tribulations. But Wayreth had no sooner spoke of seeking out the Proving Grounds than a member of his clan, SF, offered to him all the tourmalines he needed to gain another level of power. And so Wayreth made another visit to Lord Agrippa to help infuse himself again with the magical power of the black tourmalines. This time he chose to become a healer, to become a priest. Though he already had much of the knowledge of a priest from his training as a paladin, Wayreth gained a few more pieces of knowledge, and became just as confused and jumbled as the first time he took the power of the tourmalines. This time the thoughts were more disorderly and there were more of them to be sorted, so more time and effort was required to put them in order. Wayreth tackled the task of regaining his scattered knowledge with great fervor, stopping only to perform quests for the various quest masters and increasing his favor with them, that he might gain access to the powerful treasures they keep. After spending way too much time as a priest, Wayreth gathered his resources and trekked into Wizardry Isle to recover the many gemstones he would need for a final infusion. When at long last he'd acquired them, he made the final class choice. He became a bard. Right away Wayreth did a lot of quests and applied all of the training vouchers he gained towards his musical studies, after that, he devoted himself to rigorous abuse to make himself harder to kill. Then Wayreth traveled to the deep catacombs under the city of Templeton. There he gained the final experiences he needed to gain the highest level of power in all of his classes. Wayreth spent much of his time after this gaining artifacts from ancient dungeons and gaining the favor of his favorite quest masters. He gained another trunk of Vandemaar and a beautiful violin that would never abandon its owner. Then Wayreth heard of another level of power. Those that had attained this level came to be known as archons. After hearing of this, Wayreth knew he wanted to become part of this special breed of adventurer. He ventured to the deepest depths of the Proving Grounds, and proffered the crystal key he'd gotten from Lord Agrippa to the animated statue attendant who guarded the enterance to the fabled Domain of Arbaces. In a solomn mood, Wayreth passed through the doors and into the trial area. Wayreth carefully read the tablets left in the enterance chamber and heeded well the knowledge they contained. Down through the dungeon he traveled, solving the puzzles and slaying the guardian beasts set there eons past. When he finally came to the sacred chamber, past all the obstacles, there were two choices, the light vial and the dark vial. Holding his breath, Wayreth lifted his chin up, straightened his collar, and strode towards the dark. . . .
