Appearance: Vestriel appears as a standard Kyriotate with the exception that he seems to be made entirely of translucent seawater. He's even wet to the touch. Also, the eyes, mouths, and limbs he generates are all those of sea creatures, not human beings, and his voice sounds as distant as if he were submerged. He prefers to possess physically strong men, especially sailors, or powerful sea creatures (never a tiny jellyfish when he could possess a killer whale or a great white shark).
History: Vestriel was created shortly after the First Incursion. When Oannes and Vephar killed each other, Eve saw a golden opportunity to make certain that water, with all its connotations, would be firmly on the Host's side. To that end, she found a young Reliever and took him into her service. When he fledged as a Kyriotate, she coached and guided him, giving him ocean-related assignments (requests), encouraging his thinking towards the physical and metaphysical concept of water, and gently nudging him towards his Word. When the time came, she begged of the Council to grant the young Vestriel the Word of The Waters, and it was granted for his service.
After his Word-binding, Eve assigned Vestriel to the Order of Genesis, to better grasp the principles and concepts he would need to understand before a petition could be made for his Archangelship. Alas, Vestriel, being young and impressionable, fell under the sway of the charismatic Furfur, the Angel of Animals. Furfur saw Vestriel's potential and more importantly, he saw how useful Vestriel could be in Furfur's own struggle against Genesis, the Angel of Ecosystems. He took the Domination under his black wings and began to guide him in the paths of fanatic hatred of humanity. Now he and Furfur are close friends and united in their mutual hatred and disdain of the 'apes'.
Personality: They say the young grow up so fast. Not in this case: Vestriel is millennia old, but thinks like a rebellious teenager. Rules are for wimps too afraid to challenge the system. Strength is to be valued and praised. As a case in point, angels are stronger than humans are - that's why they rule. Vestriel is cocky, over-eager, strangely insecure, and determined to prove his worth, but he is cunning, in a sly fashion. He knows that his attitudes won't play well with the Council, so until he gets what he wants, he plays nice. He butters up his Superior and the Council. He does meritorious work. He smiles a lot and only breaks the rules when the Sword, Glory, or the Watch isn't around. He does everything possible to look like good Archangel material, waiting for the day when he is Archangel of The Waters and can (to his thinking) do as he pleases (which includes massive tidal waves against the coastal cities of the humans in a bizarre twist on water as a purifying agent).
Vestriel doesn't really get the older Archangels and their politics. He missed a lot of the early history, so his approach is only to become an Archangel and then screw politics, he'll do things his way whether anyone likes it or not. Vestriel sees himself as a rogue and a maverick, a two-fisted, tough, macho angel who is God's gift to female angels (he's of the new generation of angels, so television is a big part of his life). Vestriel doesn't talk much to men at first, preferring to let them talk so he can see where he stands with them first, but his insecurity often makes him suspicious of others anyway.
Women are another story. Then Vestriel is brash, crude, clingy, and abrasive, oozing sliminess (he thinks it's charm and machismo - think annoying bar pest). Even the most determined polite refusals won't chase The Waters away, so a female angel around Vestriel may be forced to drastic measures to get rid of him (Celestial Entropy tends to work well, so does Celestial Light and an image of an even more attractive female).
