Appearance: Tatariel never has taken a corporeal form, so he only has his celestial appearance: a nine-foot tall winged serpent with translucent platinum scales and six light-blue eyes hidden by spectacles. His scales gleam with every movement, though he is often cloaked in a white lab coat. If he ever did take a corporeal form, it would be a tall, stoop-shouldered, white-bearded Caucasian male in his late sixties, dressed in the tweed jacket, brown trousers, white shirt and tie of a stereotypical academic of yesteryear.
History: Tatariel was created long before the Revolution. However, his origins are both mysterious and controversial in some eyes. Like Gebbeleth, the Archangel of the Holy Mysteries, Vapula, the Archangel of SCIENCE!, Nybbas, the Archangel of Communication, and Christopher, the Archangel of Innocence, Tatariel is descended directly from an Archangel. Tatariel is the fusion of Forces given in love between Yves, the dead Archangel of Destiny, and Tatariel's Superior Raphael, the Archangel of Knowledge.
Originally, Tatariel served under Yves in the Library when he was not at his duties as a Trisagionist, quite content to just bask in the Light of Heaven. He was a quiet Seraph even then, and he was painfully shy around other angels. There are rumors that there was this cute Mercurian of Laughter whom Tatariel got especially tongue-tied around, but the Angel of Time gets very ineffable when asked about her. In was during this time that Tatariel was granted the Word of Time, to better assist Destiny in his tasks. Since things were much more fluid in those times, it was easier for the Word to be granted then, and it seemed to make sense for it to serve under Destiny.
Then came the Revolution. Tatariel was in the Library when the first attack came. Confused and frightened, the young Seraph crouched down deep within the maze of books and covered his head until the battle was done. He knew nothing of the Raising of the Fists or the betrayal by Jordi and Laurence. He came out only when the Lightbringer's forces began scouring the Library for survivors, and was very confused as to what had occurred. He saw, as all did, the conversation between his father and Lucifer, though he did not hear the words spoken, and when it was done, and he was given the choice between staying in Lucifer's Heaven or following his parents to Hades, he willingly chose Exile.
Those years after the Exile were very rough for everyone. After the enigmatic proclamation of the word 'Kronos' at the sealing of the Gates of Hades, Tatariel used his attunement and the attunements granted to him as a Master of Divine Knowledge to try to discover what this Kronos thing was, but to no avail. Having no concept of Fate, he could not understand what Yves was talking about. Tatariel tried to remain an island of calm in the midst of the chaos, but after Yves died, Tatariel broke down. He requested that his mother take him in, and she placed her arms about him, welcoming him into the ranks of Knowledge.
Since that day forward, Tatariel has tried as best he could to use his insight into time, an insight that is rapidly fracturing as the Symphony Tatters, to try to best guide his mother in her efforts to bestow Knowledge on the world. He also lends what services he can to SCIENCE!, Memory (in secret, given his mother's aversion to Mariel), and Communication, oddly viewing Vapula as a sort of younger half-brother and Nybbas as kin as well. His primary efforts go to trying to sort out the best timeline for the universe to follow, thus guiding it to its destiny - as he feels his father would have wished.
Personality: Still shy and quiet, Tatariel spends his days deep in Raphael's Cathedral, eyes closed in meditation. A Senior Director of the Symphonic Researchers, Tatariel is absolutely clueless in social situations and most at home in academia. Still, he can be a chip off the old block when it comes to ineffability and the ability to sidestep questions when asked. He is torn between what he sees for the future and what he desires to come to pass, and sometimes his quivering, ancient voice reflects the strain of the rigid control he must maintain. He also secretly harbors doubts that he can accurately see the future despite his Word. It is his secret fear that the corrupted Seraphic resonance makes him see only that which he wishes to see, but he has no way to confirm this. He thus greatly admires
Dominique's hold of herself.
