Angel of Healing: At a glance, Makatiel can detect the greatest source of suffering in a person and the details of the injury. For 7 Essence, Makatiel can heal any injury he detects.
Appearance: In Celestial form, Makatiel appears as a short, fat Elohite. His skin is moon-pale, but beneath each of his huge, luminous blue eyes is tattooed a blue teardrop, to symbolize the grief of all healers everywhere. He wears a long, flowing white lab coat over a simple blue tunic, black trousers, and dress shoes. His facial features are strangely delicate, giving him an even more androgynous look than usual for an Elohite. Corporeally, he appears as a tall, thin Caucasian man in his late fifties or early sixties, dressed the same, with thinning brown hair and a full brown beard. His rheumy blue eyes are covered by spectacles.
History: Makatiel is a relatively new angel on the scene. He was one of the first angels created by Christopher after he rose to Archangel of Innocence in 1790 AD. Makatiel was around for the construction of the House on the Lake and was one of the first members of the House staff, once Christopher had enough angels to make a division in duties. Makatiel was originally assigned to make sure that people returned the things taken from his Mistress's Toy-box.
But then the burden of healing the injured angels fell to Innocence, and Christine was overwhelmed at first. Makatiel, sharing the boundless love for his Superior that all the angels of Innocence feel for Christine, was concerned and offered to take over that department. A grateful Christine agreed, and thus the hospital fell to Makatiel's care. A hundred years passed, and Christine was so pleased that she recommended Makatiel for the Word of Healing. Lucifer, seeing the opportunity to take a powerful Word away from the Exiles and the Others, agreed, and thus Makatiel became the Angel of Healing, Heaven's Master Physician.
Personality: Makatiel is as devoted to the care of the injured and the sick as any Cherub. He accelerated rapidly in Christine's service, but he does not care about rank. Like many harried doctors, he is considerate and polite, if somewhat preoccupied, but he does not brook insolence or grandstanding, not in his hospital! The thought of becoming an Archangel and leaving the service of Christine is something that has never occurred to him at all. He's happy and content where he is.
