Maron is, of course, insane.  That's his job.

The Prince of the Game has heard of the almost-amusing human conceit that the only strategy that cannot be defended against is a truly random one.  There is no such thing as "random": there is merely "Rules subtle beyond your pathetic ability to comprehend."  Causality is all, everything is predictable, and God does not live beneath the Planck length.  Everything can be described, and thus controlled.

However, this does not mean that things may not be obscure, even at the level enjoyed by a Superior.  The Game is a process, not an event.  Describing every piece in the Game is of course within Asmodeus's powers and Word, but the exercise will still take time to complete.   Until then, there will be portions of the board that are... uncategorized.  Moves coming from those portions of the board will be... unannounced.  Classification and control will be... subject to prioritization.

In the meantime, there's Maron, and the rest of his cadre.  Maron has been carefully designed to be both mad and brilliant.  The former quality requires him to develop fantastical belief structures for the most mundane occurrences: the latter permits him to come up with structures that might, in fact, work.  It also would normally make him useless to Hell or anyone else, except for the special circumstances involved in working for the Game.  Maron's Discord is Paranoia, which is supernatural in origin, and thus not amenable for treatment... except when he is using his Humanity attunement.  When he is, the Discord then reflects a "mere" chemical imbalance in the brain, one that Asmodeus made sure would be fully treatable with easily available anti-psychotic drugs.  The end result is that Maron can turn off his Discord when it gets in the way of his work.

It's hard to say precisely what Maron's true personality is like.  When his Humanity attunement is active he's fairly passive and mostly interested in keeping up with his reading and viewing.  When his Humanity attunement is off Maron is manic in a way that hides the fact that he trusts nobody in the room.  Both versions are loyal to both the Game and the cause of Hell (in that order); neither makes it a point to be nasty, but also doesn't fret if it happens.

If there actually is an esoteric answer to a seemingly mundane problem, Maron actually stands an excellent chance of working it out.  Or will, when he gets more experience: the demon is just beginning his Earthly career.  He is currently ensconced in a very nice mental health care facility, with plenty of research materials and information services.  When needed, his "relatives" sign him out on a trip, have him turn off his Humanity in order to fully access the celestial portions of his intelligence and let him loose on the nagging problems.  Getting him to turn the attunement back on again can take some doing, and usually involves making him think that doing so will get him off of angelic radars.

Maron can be used as a beginning character.
