Push the Button, Frank (Dreams/Nightmares)
This Attunement is only given out to Servitors of
Dreams and Nightmares (they are functionally equivalent), period. Said Servitors have to demonstrate three
qualities before they can even hope to acquire said Attunement:
1). Extensive
experience of the ethereal plane, its dangers and special rules.
2). A
proven ability to quickly make the right decision under the most adverse
conditions.
3) An
uncritical willingness to promote their Word over their own personal safety.
Some Servitors of Dreams/Nightmares mutter that
demonstrating...
4). Being
barking mad insane and getting away with it.
...doesn't hurt, either.
All of this is necessary because this Attunement is
the ethereal plane's equivalent of a tactical nuclear weapon. Activation of it (which costs 7 Essence)
immediately shreds whatever dreamscape the celestial is currently in. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200 but go
directly to full, gasping-in-shock consciousness.
The human whose dreamscape was leveled gets off
fairly easily: he or she suffers no effects besides bolting upright in bed
(although the sheets will invariably have to be immediately replaced). However, any interloping mortal, ethereal
and/or celestial caught in the blast takes 10d6 (yes, 10d6) Mind Hits. This includes the holder of the Attunement,
incidentally. Either the Ethereal
and/or the Celestial Song of Shields will block the damage... but not the knockback. Anyone who is still conscious after
undergoing this 'attack' will find him, her or itself very far away on
the Ethereal Plane: the GM is encouraged to determine the final location with
malice aforethought.
Truth be told, neither Blandine nor Beleth particularly like to give out this Attunement... but they both know that the Other Side does, and it's too useful a last-ditch attack to do without. Rest assured, though, that any use will have to be explained, quickly.
