Important Pre-Oops Events

The events portrayed in "Suffer the Children" take place, resulting in residual bad feeling between Andreaphlus and Nybbas.

After Haagenti

Heaven

The most radical change is Dominic’s "temporary" shelving of his plans to try Eli for heresy: the Archangel of Judgement is too busy with collating and forwarding the priceless intelligence received from Haagenti. At about this time, Eli has returned to Heaven, anyway, and is helping the Archangel of Gusto set up an organization. Michael is also providing assistance.

Hell

Haagenti’s departure has left a mild power vacuum. After some jockeying for position, Nybbas, Kobal and Andreaphlus have assumed joint control of the former Prince’s power structure and Tethers. Haagenti’s former servants have mostly switched to Lust, the Media or Dark Humor, but a very small core group has remained under Amorsai, an Impudite who is the new Demon (not Princess) of Gluttony. Amorsai has begun to secretly reach out to Asmodeus and Valefor, hoping that a chance to increase their influence over a formerly hostile Word will worth supporting her for a Princedom. Asmodeus is slightly distracted by the trickle of Renegade Servitors of Gluttony seeking Redemption.

After Malphas

Heaven

Bolstered by Malphas’ defection, Haagenti begins his campaign for at least neutrality between Michael and Dominic. David and Marc begin, tentatively, to search for a mutually agreeable method to confirm the loyalty of the Archangel of Individuality. Dominic, with the help of Malphas, is trapping Renegades by the score: those deemed salvageable are Redeemed, while the rest are quietly tossed to the Game. Laurence institutes policy of placing more angels on earth, moving into areas formerly too well held by Renegades.

Hell

The Principality of Factions did not survive in any form after the Redemption of its Prince. Its former Servitors have generally gone Renegade, found service with other Princes, or been destroyed. Stygia is now divided (unequally) between Valefor and Alaemon, whose working relationship is beginning to fray over who should control the lion’s share of the resources. Asmodeus’ organization is currently engrossed with secretly capturing, trying, and executing Renegades, due to the ever-increasing numbers of them discreetly provided by Judgement. The situation in Shal-Mari has begun to deteriorate, as Nybbas and Andreaphlus continue to bear each other ill will from the events portrayed in "Suffer the Children".

Post Saminga

Heaven

The arrival of Saminga increases the effective power of the war faction, and the peace faction is likewise bolstered by the organizations of Haagenti and Malphas, now ready to act on the corporeal plane. Sorcerers and the undead are the first targets for Heaven’s displeasure. In exchange for support, the peace faction presses for an effective reduction of hostilities between the Host and "selected Ethereal denizens": the war faction acquiesces, after it is pointed out that such a move might weaken Beleth’s side of the Marches. Tentative emissaries are sent to various ethereal courts, with little result.

Hell

Saminga’s departure from Abaddon was preceded by the extermination of 10% of his Servitors, from the top down. The remainder has begun a three-sided civil war, centered around Nurbis, Demon of Mummification (see H&H, page 86), Freilere, the Balseraph Demon of Agony, and forces loyal to Hatiphas, Demoness of Sorcery (an "outside" candidate supported by the other Princes, notably Kronos). Hatiphas seemed certain at first to take control of Abaddon, and thus win the Princedom, but she is still in a greatly weakened Trauma from encountering the Archangel of Fulfillment on the Corporeal plane. Shal-Mari and Stygia are now both rapidly destabilizing, politically. Asmodeus is attempting to take control of the situation in all three areas, now that the flood of Renegades has died down, but is still overextended.

Chronological Sequence of Events after Saminga’s Redemption

(Note: no hard and fast dates are listed here: you can have them take place within weeks, months or decades, depending on the campaign.)

- A major covert war between the Host (spearheaded by Fulfillment’s forces) and human Sorcerers and undead erupts. Heaven is especially interested in destroying all entities with the ability to create zombies. They are generally successful.

- A gang war breaks out in Shal-Mari, between disavowed forces of Nybbas and Andreaphlus. Fleurity and Mammon take the opportunity to expand their own territories, while Furfur’s organization rakes in Essence from mercenary and bodyguard duties. Only Lilith continues to remain neutral, and insists that her daughters be allowed to conduct business as usual. That all sides honor this (mostly) is some indication on just how ‘disavowed’ the rebellious Servitors are. Kobal very visible in attempts to moderate the dispute, with some success.

- Valefor and Alaemon openly break out in warfare over control of Stygia. Much to everyone’s surprise, Alaemon is able to not only hold his own, but even prevail somewhat. By the time that peace is imposed, Valefor only controls half of the Principality, and was straining himself to hold that much. Neither Prince is pleased, and continues to plot in secret.

- Nurbis manages to overcome and destroy his rival Freilere, but is reluctant to move against the forces of Hatiphas. He petitions Lucifer to resolve the dilemma.

- The situation in Shal-Mari further deteriorates. The Principality is now divided into six (or seven, or eight, depending on whom you ask) smaller sections with semi-stable borders. Relationships between zones range from friendly to constant skirmishing. Amorsai (the only non-Prince to control an independent territory) begins to establish her "turf" as a neutral space where necessary business can take place.

- The Host begins to target Eminent Entertainment, Inc. on Earth. Marc and David coordinate a joint strategy, assisted by Dominic: legal battles are interspersed with armed assaults on selected Media-controlled corporations. While not as successful as the Sorcery Campaign, gains are made.

- Hatiphas emerges from Trauma. She and Nurbis work out truce, with neither taking the Word of Death. Tentative reconstruction of the Sorcerer’s network begins, hampered by Heavenly interference. First mention of the Grey Circles.

- The Tsayadim begin raiding the Marches anew. The Ethereal pantheons demand assistance from the Host in exchange for their independence from Beleth and Nybbas. This is reluctantly granted: Novalis herself goes to the Tsayadim in a last-ditch effort to save them from obliteration. She promptly disappears.

- Tethers of Belial are targeted worldwide in a sudden attack by various elements of the Host. Many are destroyed or converted to Gabriel’s use. War between the two Superiors of Fire commences.

- Novalis, looking very, very tired and haggard, appears at Blandine’s Tower with virtually all of the Tsayadim in tow. They submit to the will of the Seraphim Council and regain their place in Heaven – but are banned from the Marches and assigned to various Archangels. Many seek service with Eli, who has by now reassumed his former duties and is formally cleared of all charges by a smiling Dominic.

- India detonates a nuclear device as part of ongoing tests. Belial, using his natural resonance, immediately travels through the new Tether to stabilize it. Unfortunately for him, this test was a trap: he appears on Earth surrounded by Servitors of War, Vigor, Fire, Individuality and Fulfillment … and their Archangels. The resulting battle was bloody, vicious and fatal to many of the Host … but Belial was slain personally by Gabriel and his Servitors were decimated. Gabriel’s insanity begins to fade from this point: Haagenti persuades Dominic to "temporarily" suspend preparations for a heresy trial.

- Kobal disappears from Shal-Mari. His Heart is found, shattered, with an artifact nearby capable of doing the deed. Frantic searches in Hell, the Marches and Earth reveal no sign of him, and he does not appear in Heaven … but the Word is not vacant. It is thus assumed that he has entered Limbo. He has not emerged since.
