ST Gadgets

Jean... relented.  Or perhaps he accepted the inevitable; or even decided to sign off on the items below for his own obscure purposes.  His Servitors were disinclined to enquire too closely into the exact reasons.  The important thing was to work out how to actually use their new toys without either getting caught or embarrassed... which is just the slightest bit harder than it looks, on first glance.  This really surprises no-one; the Archangel of Lightning has his own little ways of testing for aptitude.

Needless to say, the aesthetics are decidedly retro.  Revelations and Design saves the trendy blue glowing nonsense for Vaputech; besides, that's just an indication of unacceptable levels of Cherenkov radiation anyway.

Communicator

This item is carried around essentially openly.  Many people want cell phones that resemble what they saw on television, growing up, so it was mostly a matter of tweaking the outward design to make it look like a copy of the original design.  However, Lightning's version is invulnerable, works anywhere, effortlessly patches into any local cell phone or wireless network available, offers perfect encryption - and can call Heaven.

On the other hand, God help you if you manage to lose it.  And everybody in the know about communicators wants one of their very own.

Phaser

This weapon (Ranged Weapon: Phaser) has three settings.  Stun knocks people out; a successful hit will force a roll at Strength -2.  Failure will result in unconsciousness for (CD of the failed roll) hours.  Kill, well, kills: Power +12, and if this would kill the target, the body will disintegrate in classic fashion (useful for evidence removal).  Both settings have an Acc of +2, a range of 200 and twenty shots; availability of reloads is completely up to the GM.  Overload makes the phaser blow up (10d6 damage) within a minute; use the explosive rules from the CPG.

Tricorder

Interestingly, no one could agree on what the 'tri' represented, so they came up with a list and let the users pick the ones that they wanted for any particular unit.  This method works well over the long run, but it also means that any individual tricorder may not be well suited for any individual situation.

The item may sense, diagnose and analyze (+3 to all appropriate skill/Characteristic rolls, including defaults) three of the following:

Biochemical materials  (+1 for physical Chemistry)

Physical Chemical materials (+1 for Biochemistry)

Dedicated Electromagnetic fields (this includes light and sound; +1 to detect Radioactivity)

Dedicated Radioactivity (+1 to detect Electromagnetic Fields)

Disturbance

Ecological systems (handy for 'life signs')

Electronic Equipment

Gravitational fields

Human Belief (This will detect ethereals on a successful roll)

Mechanical Equipment

Medical Scanning

Cloaking Device

This is a prototype device that either bends light around itself, transmits light through the user or... something else.  It's certain that Jean isn't going to give that information out to anybody that's interested.  The fact that it's a prototype doesn't mean that it's likely to explode - much - but it does mean that the +6 to Move Silently comes at a price: a successful Electronics -2 roll every half hour and 2 notes of disturbance every five minutes.  In other words, it's mostly worthwhile if you're a human that's facing humans... and, when it comes down to it, Soldiers of Jean don't really mind that at all.  It's nice to have something that's just for you, you know?
