It's interesting to see how many Archangels
smoke. You've got Yves and his
cigarettes, Gabriel and her - well, everything, Eli and his 'pipe'; Michael's
never been shown with a stogie, but can't you just see him with one, especially
when in conjunction with American enlisted man battledress, circa 1943?
Well, add two more to the list: Dominic and Litheroy
have both been known to indulge in cigarillos (which are certainly more
refined than mere vulgar cigars, even if neither has ever said so). Being Archangels, only the finest tobacco
ends up in their humidors - not that they need to arrange for that to
happen. The tobacco will make
itself worthy, if necessary.
Of course, as both Archangels are strong believers
in multitasking, their favored brand (Dominican Touchstone) has a certain value
above and beyond the smoking experience that they provide. When smoked, a Dominican Touchstone produces
a cloud of aromatic (and nontoxic) smoke that is exceptionally sensitive to
psychometric energies: treat as a variant of the Corporeal Song of Memory that
is cast on an area (volume no larger than ten by ten cubic feet) instead of an
individual item. Within that area, all
activity that has taken place within the last week will be clearly visible (and
explicitly subject to divine resonance use): the action may be fast-forwarded,
rewound or stopped for the duration of the cigar (which can be stretched out
for about an hour). Practically
speaking, the user may choose whatever point of time he, she or it wants to see
pretty much at will. Color is provided,
but not any other sensory input besides visual.
Alternatively, Dominicans can just be smoked: both
Dominic and Litheroy give these items out as rewards for good service, and do
not expect them to be used on the spot.
Having one is a bit of a cachet among the Host, which leads to the
occasional amusing tableau of a worried angel wondering if resolving a current
mystery is worth causing their status symbol to go (literally) up in smoke...
