Nepean Hotspurs women dominated both the recreational and competitive divisions of the Pat O'Kane Cup, hosted by the Ottawa Falcons Soccer Club May 26-27th. The tournament, which is in its 23rd year, was held at the Centrepoint and Colonnade fields in Nepean.
The Div 2 Ladies Hotspurs Celtics, coached by Donald Swartz, were the recreational division champs, giving up only one of six games and allowing only three goals throughout the tournament, thanks to great netminding by Shannon DaCosta. A semi-final win in penalty kicks against South Nepean United and a shorthanded win in the final, also in penalty kicks, against the Raiders, clinched the championship. It was a superb team effort and kudos go to #18 Julie Cybulski, the team's top scorer, and #11 Estelle Ducatel, who was selected as the Rec. Division Tourney MVP.
On the competitive side, the premier ladies Hotspur Hearts, coached by Vince Licandro, were also victors, taking their divisional championship in a hard fought 1-0 victory over Gloucester.
Congratulations ladies and thanks to the tournament organizers for a job well done!
