| Alicia Hutchison has been
has been honing her skills as a singer since she was first bitten by the
bug at age nine. Beginning with musical theater and chamber singing,
she soon expanded into the world of a cappella, co-founding a new women's
group that is still performing at Carleton College today. Upon moving to
New York in 1996, Alicia began studying classic pop performance, at the
same time joining the all-female Pop/Rock a cappella group 10fm, and was
soon performing insome of New York's most respected outlets for new talent,
including regular performances at the Bitter End and two appearances at
The Bottom Line. 1998 brought a headlining performance at the East
Coast A Cappella Summit in Boston, and a performance as a finalist in the
New York showcase of the Lilith Fair talent search. The group's CD
was released the following year, gaining critical acclaim from the a cappella
community, and featuring three songs written by Alicia.
In 2000, Alicia stopped performing
with 10fm so she could channel all her efforts towards singing the classic
pop and jazz songs she had loved for so long. In November of that
same year, she presented her first cabaret show to a packed house at Cabaret
1050 in New York's theater district. Finally, she can sing Cole Porter
24 hours a day. But how could she neglect all of her other men?
Gershwin, Rodgers, Arlen, Ellington, Strayhorn, Bernstein...is she a torchsinger
born 30 years too late?
Come and judge for yourself. |
