FAQ's

Q: What is the ORR?
A: It is short for South-Western Ohio KZ Rally, an informal ride for motorcycle enthusiasts to meet and ride together, particularly aimed at Kawasaki KZ model owners. It is open to all makes, models and years but with primary focus on the KZ models or other Universal Japanese Motorcycles (UJM's) from the 70's & 80's.

Q: Where is the Rally being held?
A: Please click the "Routes" button on the main page to see the routes this year.

Q: Is there any cost to participate in the Rally?
A: In a word, no. This is a ride at your own risk ride, in other words, there is no overseeing organization or rules to follow other than the ones you agree to when you sign up.

Q: What do I need to bring to the Rally?
A: You should bring whatever you decide you need for a days ride, it's a personal preference thing.

Q: What kind of bike can I ride?
A: You can ride anything that you don't have to pedal. The Rally is primarily for KZ's or other UJM's but all makes/models are welcome. Your bike must be in a well enough maintained condition so as not to pose a safety hazard to you or other riders in the Rally. Basic preperation of the bike so it will make a couple of hundred miles without breaking down is not only smart but courteous to others in the rally. Not saying it has to be perfect, just safe.

Q: How fast will I be expected to ride?
A: You set your own pace. There are several good articles about setting your own pace and you should follow them. Maps will be provided, however you are more than welcome to explore other roads. You can pair up with a group if that is more your thing.

Q: I have never rode with a group before, are their rules, hand signals, etc?
A: There are no real rules just accepted ways of riding. (see this MSF Group Ride) Two abreast or riding in large groups is unsafe and I strongly discourage doing it. If you find yourself falling behind the bike in front of you then let those behind you pass, just remember guys you have to keep an eye on what's in front AND behind you. We absolutely don't want to lose someone that was part of a group. All groups will need to stop to wait for everyone in their group to reform as a group at any stop sign or light.

Q: How long of ride is the Rally?
A: You will start the ride at 9:30am on Saturday, you'll ride for about 2-3 hours before lunch with at least one stop for gas, etc besides probable sightseeing stops. You will ride about 4hrs. in the afternoon but there will be more stops for gas, etc., then everyone will meet at the designated End of the Rally Food & Fun place where people can say goodbye and head home or hang around for awhile with those staying the night. Remember, with the provided maps you can pull out of the ride anytime you feel you need to and meet up with the groups at lunch or at the end. Informing your group that you are pulling out is required as all groups will need to be sure that no one is left behind for any reason.

Points to remember:

~ This Rally is just a friendly gathering of like minded riders, there is no formal organization behind it in that this isn't a sanctioned ride by any group or organization, strictly volunteers helping to make this ride to happen. So if you can help out just let me know even if we have enough group leaders we will need back ups just in case the Rally has too large turnout for keeping the groups to about 6-8 riders.

~ You will be responsible for everything you need and you'll be responsible for your own safety, THIS IS A RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK RALLY. Decide what pace you are comfortable with and ride your own ride, don't feel like you have to prove anything by trying to exceed the pace what you or your bike can handle.

~ We expect everyone to wear the appropriate gear, (no sandals, etc. I hate road rash.)

~ There won't be any beer stops during the ride, safety of the individual and group are to be yours and everyone else's only concern.

~ We want to have fun but we want everyone to be safe.

~ At the beginning of the rally, groups of riders with similar desired paces will start out first.

~ Large groups tend to be hard to maintain as a group and are dangerous as riders feel they must take more chances to stay together as a group.

~ The weather during the time of the Rally is usually good riding weather and the dreaded wet leaves on the road aren't a major factor yet. You must be alert none the less. There is no tentative rain date.

~ If your riding in from out of town then staying overnight is something you might want to consider so you can rest up before the rally.

IMPORTANT DATES

The Rally should start between 9:30-10am and end about 5-6pm with a End of Ride Food & Fun meet.

Please try to let me know far in advance of the 18th as it takes a lot of effort to organize something like this, thanks!

No rain date.
