FOSA 1100
|
Post-Installation
This section will cover some other system configurations that are specific
to the FOSA 1100. For pointers on installation, go to my
installation page.
I see no need in having another section on the basics of configuring a
generic Linux system as documentation for these are abundant, and are
much better than what I can provide.
For starters, check out the Official Red Hat Getting Started Guide which
is in /doc on the Red Hat CDROM.
Before I forget, the obligatory DISCLAIMER.

Sound Card Configuration
The soundcard that comes with the FOSA 1100 is the ES1869 Audio Drive from
ESS Technologies. The sound card is not recognised by Linux but we can get
around this by using the driver for another card -- the ESS1868.
As root, do the following:
- At a console prompt type:
/usr/sbin/sndconfig
- You should see a welcome screen. Press Ok to continue.
- The program informs you no Plug and Pray soundcards were
detected. It then proceeds to let you choose one from a list. Select the
ESS1868.
- The card settings are:
I/O Port: 0x220
IRQ: 5
DMA: 1
MPU I/O: 0x330
You can check these from the BIOS if you are unsure.
- You should hear the test wav and midi files that follow. If not,
there's nothing much I can do about it :)
Some suggestions: Check if you really do have a ESS1869 under
the hood. Or check your card settings from the BIOS again. When all else
fails, play around by choosing some other cards especially the
SoundBlaster ones, hopefully you will find a compatible one. Oh and
read my DISCLAIMER before you do that ;)
