After all that work and
restoring done to Phil's '74 Bronco, it was time to take her out and
give it a shot. While we were at it, we figured it was time to also
break in our newest addition to our family, Ryan. He was born on July
7th and there's no sense in him waiting for the inevitable in this
family,,,,,, get him out on a trail early,,,,,, hey, he gave us his
first smile that day too! The things to come !!!!!! It was my first
time out at Blue mountain and I was looking forward to it,,heard
lot's about it. Phil had been before so he figured that the power
line trail would be a good de-cherrying for his rig. The trail was a
few Kms long (didn't actually check) and offered some good
challenges. It could also be a good learning run for a fairly stock
vehicle being that there were a lot of ways around the couple of
harder sections. Our first real test was a v-sluice with some mild,
sandy soil at it's base (just enough to screw you up). Both of us had
to take a few runs to get up and over this one and throttle ended up
being the answer (when all else fails, give her....). Our next
obstacle ended up being a 30' steep down hill grade with some ledges
and drops, not huge ones but still attention getters, the clinometer
hit 40 deg. coming down at one point. Phil's rig started to get vapor
locked at this point and he was having some problems keeping her
running, he decided to take the by-pass, have lunch and let her cool
down. Better to work out the bugs close to home than in the
backcountry.

After about 40 min. or so we cruised
along to a 50' section with two main ledges to climb, the larger one
being about ~ 2.5' high. I gave her a couple of tries and with the
angle toy showing a 46 deg. angle and a tire hanging in the air, and
the sun in my eyes and the mild earthquake and the sunstroke from the
40 deg.C heat and the newborn crying.......Ok, Ok he never
cried,,,,,, I just wimped....next time.

All in all we had a great day and we
weren't disappointed,,,,,,BUT read on-----
We tried to get a key for the gate at the
rec. center,, but were told that they weren't handing them out
anymore ?? The receptionist gave us a phone number to call to state
our opinion: The man to talk to is Mike Murray @ 467-7337 (the key
guy). Phone him and bitch!!!! Apparently the lock is going to be
changed and there will no longer be any access via this
route.-------I believe there's a write up in the 4WDABC site on the
way....
