Us big kids (as well as little) had planned an easy overnighter at Levette in the snow. We arrived at Levette lake at about 3pm to find.....no snow. We decided that Hut would be our next choice.

1st obstacle to lower hut

Trailer full of wood @ the first obstacle

30 metre off-camber section

No snow to be seen until after the first obstacle. It wasn't much of a challenge at first, but soon we were deep in it. We aired the Trooper's tires down some more (10psi) and kept plugging along. About a 1.5kms before the lake we started to stop more often to clear deadfall and brush out of our way. This is a tight trail in most cases, but in winter she grows in a couple of feet due to all the evergreens being weighted down with snow. As the elevation started to gain a bit and the snow deepen, it was time for the winch. We tied a tether to Raf's Jeep and he winched his way up some of the deeper, steeper inclines.

some tether winching was done

Leaving Hut lake,, one big Slurpee!!

Luckily we only had to shovel a few off camber sections, mostly to prevent Raf's soft top from tearing against the trees. About 3 hrs later the GPS showed that we were actually moving away from the lake.. The Hut lake trail is an obvious one with really only one turn off, which leads to Hut. Going straight takes you to Upper Hut and the better 4-lo sections.. Believe it or not we had driven past the Hut lake fork.. We cleared a few 100metres of trail beyond the fork before we realized our mistake, or Raf noticed our mistake. Basically we were 50 metres before the 'meridian' or #2 obstacle. Alittle bit of controversy about whether we missed it or not and then the fun of turning around began. Some minor body damage was suffered by all during this process. The trailer we were pulling was the problem here, but dry wood was worth the effort!!! I think!!! We bombed back down the trail, found the 'blocked' intersection and parked her next to the lake.. There was a very quick consideration before we backtracked to keep pushing to Upper Hut, but the original paln wasn't to clear and break the trail in. It was now 7:00 and it had taken us 4hrs to get to Lower Hut from Levette. Fire was lit, tent was set-up, tent heater was sparked and dry clothes were thrown on. Kids had a blast playing in the snow and we started adding to our current consumption of antifreeze..

A lot of the trail was underwater

At around 11:00 we heard some rigs coming up the trail.. A lot of high revving rpms were finding their way to us.. 6 local Squamish rigs arrived for a night run, looked like the decision had been made from a pub or something.. They visited for awhile and decided to tear up to the next lake. We crashed for the night and never heard them come back down. At about 5:30 in the morning we heard the first one roll down the trail, stalling every couple of dozen feet!!! This group ended up leaving two rigs up the trail towards the next lake, two rigs between Levette and our camp. We helped the 5th rig with an alternator belt to get him out.. The other guys were all stuck with broken axles and good stuff like that.. Oh well !!! They were close to home I guess!!!
