now i really need to get to the point. this page is for the explanation of this place. Ananas Weyr! welcome, by the way!! now let me explain. hee hee! i put this in the form of an interview..you ask me a question, i answer. got it? heh.
Q: Ananas weyr..? what the..?
A: Ananas Weyr, with a capital W please. hehe. Ananas is known as a "cyber pet adoption agency", although the creatures you receive here are much more than mere cyberpets..they are Pernese dragons!
Q: Pern..? i've heard of that! is this one of those..
A: NOOO it's not! it's not an online RP weyr, if that's what you were about to say. Ananas is by no means an online roleplaying weyr. It is intended purely for the adoption of cyber pets and for fun. Pern and the World of Pern are copyright 1967 to Anne McCaffrey, the writer and creater of the book series "Dragonriders of Pern" (and may I add, she is a very nice lady indeed! i've had the privelage to speak with her several times =) What happens at Ananas is that you apply to be a "candidate" for Impression by a dragon, and if you're lucky, you might Impress!
Q: wait a second..what..? Impression..? dragons..? candidates?
A: oh yes, i forgot to explain myself. on Pern, there are 5 different dragon colors: green, blue, brown, bronze, and gold. (there was even a white dragon once, but we won't have any of that here at Ananas. that was a special case.) Young men and women apply to be a candidate for Impression by one of these noble dragons..Impression is the mental bonding of the dragon's mind to its chosen partner's mind at the moment of hatching. The dragon and its partner can communicate telepathically, that is, through the mind. When Thread, one of Pern's few dangers, falls from the sky in the form of threadlike spores, dragon and rider must take to the skies to sear the Thread before it hits the ground with the dragon's fiery breath. Thread falls with every pass of the Red Star, a giant, fiery, terrible red star that can be seen from Pern. this only happens once every so often, but when it does, the dragons are there to help. That's the story with Pern anyway. Here at Ananas, we are at a time when no Thread falls, for now anyway. A time when no Thread falls is called an interval. And besides, its only a homepage (don't tell anyone)
Q: ok, i'm a little confused, but i think i've got it..now about the dragon colors..
A: aaahhh yes. there is a difference in the colors.
greens are the smallest dragons and cannot lay eggs because they are sterile from eating firestone, a stone used to produce fire during a threadfall. Greens are always female and are always ridden by females.
blues are the next largest, and are the fighter dragons. They cannot mate with any dragon other than a green. Blues are always male and are always ridden by males.
Next come the browns. these are big guys, about the same size as the bronze. They are huge and are always male, and ridden only by males. They have been known to be able to mate with queens (golds).
the bronze is considered the highest rank a male can receive in dragons. they are gorgeous, and the largest male dragon. they are ridden only by males and always mate with the golds.
Golds, or queens, are gigantic. About the size of a jet plane, queens are the only dragons to produce a clutch of eggs. they are always ridden by a female.
Q: wow! where do these huge dragons live..?
A: in caves built in mountainsides called weyrs. a weyr is always run by a man and woman, or the weyrleader and weyrwoman. At this weyr, there is a weyrleader, G'nes, and a weyrwoman, Skyler. Their dragons are bronze Hollanth and gold Lebelkith. When a weyrleader or weyrwoman dies, the junior weyrleader/woman takes over.
Q: G'nes..that's an odd name..why doesn't Skyler's have an apostrophe?
A: when a boy becomes a dragonrider, his name is traditionally shortened and an apostrophe is added. some examples are F'lar and F'nor from "dragonflight". the women's names are never changed.
Q: this all sounds really cool! so how do i get one..?
A: Ananas Weyr is not always accepting candidates. but sometimes we are. when we are, you'll get all the information you need here.
Q: neat! so how long have you been doing all this webdesign, cyber pet stuff?
A: forever! no, but for a long ass time anyway. i got the internet when i was in 8th grade, and i am currently a senior in high school. i've been drawing and adopting out cyber pets for..geez, i dont know..since freshman year, i suppose. i started the whole pern thing when i saw someone else's site, and it inspired me. since then i've been constantly improving my dragons, making them better and more realistic looking. my first online weyr was called Talis weyr, which lasted for a looong time. then it was kess, which fizzled and died after about a month. and now it's ananas! i hope this one lasts. i have a bad habit of starting these things and never finishing up anything with them. i've known some of the cyber pet people since i started doing this stuff, and a lot of them are good friends of mine. it's been so long since i've doen this stuff, i don't know if they'd remember me. hint hint: it's me, Lira! hehe. nevermind.
Q: so you'd notice if i stole a dragon..?
A: Um, yeah. I'm not stupid. and if there's one thing i hate, it's graphic thieves. people work long and hard on their damn drawings, and they don't need stingy, nasty rats like them to go and steal them, just because they're too lazy to make their own. Don't steal ANYTHING of mine, or i swear you'll be sorry. i'll be polite at first, but if that fails, watch out. you don't want to see me mad. If all else fails, i will contact your homepage provider, show them proof of their theft, and have your homepage shut down. it has been done. so be wise and don't steal.
Q: well..can you make me a set of my own cyber creatures?
A: NO. i am not doing that sort of thing. I have NO TIME to be making special dragons, whole sets of creatures, webpages, or anything of that nature. i'm sorry, but i need to be firm about this. i was too nice before.
Q: then how do you have time to do this weyr?
A: i am going to be running this weyr on my spare time. i work a lot of the time, but i usually have 1 or 2 or 3 days off a week, and that is when i will be working on this. This weyr is not my #1 priority, so don't be surprised if i don't answer an email for a few days. it is something run in my spare time and my summer boredom (hehe) so please be patient with me.
Q: hmm..i think that's about it..one more thing. what does ANANAS mean anyway?
A: LOL. "Ananas" means pineapple in German. there you have it. Pineapple weyr. heheh. i told you i was crazy. but doesn't it sound cool?
Q: yeah, sure. i think i'll go apply for a candidate position now.
