y precious child, the Lord who created you says, do not be afraid--I will save you. I have called you by name--you are mine. You are my beloved child; you are my delight. The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end. I have loved you with an everlasting love; with lovingkindness I have drawn you to me.
I have examined you and I know you. I know everything you do; from far away I understand all your thoughts. I see you, whether you are working or resting; I know all your actions. Even before you speak, I already know what you will say. I am all around you on every side; I protect you with my power. I created every part of you; I put you together in your mother's womb.
I shield you, care for you, guard you as the apple of my eye. I will be your God through all your lifetime, yes, even when your hair is white with age. I made you and I will care for you. I will carry you along and be your savior.
For I loved the world so much that I gave my only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. This is what love is: it is not that you have loved me, but that I loved you and sent my Son to be the means by which your sins are forgiven. Nothing can ever separate you from my love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels won't, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep my love away. Your fears for today, your worries about tomorrow, or where you are--high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean--nothing will ever be able to separate you from my love demonstrated by the Lord Jesus Christ when Jesus died for you.
Does this mean that now you can go ahead and sin and not worry about it? (For your salvation does not depend on keeping the law, but on receiving my grace!) Of course not! Don't you realize that you can choose your own master? You can choose sin (with death) or else obedience (with acquittal). The one to whom you offer yourself--he will take you and be your master and you will be his slave. I am light and in me is no darkness at all. So if you say you are my friend, but go on living in spiritual darkness and sin, you are lying.
I rescued you from the power of darkness and brought you safe into the kingdom of my dear Son, by whom you are set free, that is, your sins are forgiven. You aren't saved from sin's grasp by knowing my commandments, because you can't and don't keep them, but I put into effect a different plan to save you. I sent my own Son in a human body like yours--except that yours is sinful--and destroyed sin's control over you by giving him as a sacrifice for your sins. So now you can obey my laws if you follow after the Holy Spirit and no longer obey the old evil nature within you. For I am at work within you, helping you want to obey me, and then helping you do what I want.
Come near to me, and I will come near to you. I do not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart. I don't want your sacrifices--I want your love; I don't want your offerings--I want you to know me. Trust in me with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember me in everything you do, and I will show you the right way. I am your protector and defender, your shelter and savior.
