Beginner's Guide to the Insides of your PC!
Motherboard : "CPU" Motherboard and everything else wired into it.HDD: Primary storage device. Pre-fetch: gets data and places it in queue. Architecture: way the parts of a computer are arranged and put together. Control Unit: decides if data from pre-fetch needs to go to ALU or CPU for processing. Sometimes, it must decode information it receives into machine code. ALU: Arithmetic logic unit, a coprocessor that is responsible for solving arithmetic problems. Decode Unit: responsible fore converting data in machine code. Bus: Only part in the PC that everything goes through and takes advantage of. BIOS: Basic Output/Input System. Firmware, cross between hardware and software. Embedded into the computer. CMOS: central management operating system. Responsible for updating the computer setup and time/date. Thermal Overload Switch: If processor or computer peripherals are overheated, PC will automatically shut off. Sockets: can be sockets or ports. Ports can be serial (where pins depend on each other and if 1 doesn't work the rest won't work), Parallel (Works in twos, so only if 2 are damaged it won't work), or USB (Universal Service Bus) Slots: are used for expanding computer peripherals Power Supply: provides power and electricity to the computer parts in order for them to operate.
