The Guidon
March/April,
1999
"And
all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and
spear:
for
the battle is the LORD's (I Samuel 17:47)
- A "guidon"
(pronounced "guide-on") was a flag typically used by both
Northern and Southern armies to signal or identify unit, affiliation or
strategic military position during battle. The
Guidon is the newsletter and WebLink ministry of the
Christian
Reenactor's Network, dedicated to proclaiming the Bible as
the Word of God, proclaiming our strategic position on its authority,
and to make known its timeless relevancy to life. The
Guidon explores issues and topics of spiritual importance
to men and woman, offering encouragment and an eternal hope to all, with
special focus on the Civil War reenactor, Federal, Confederate, and
civilian. Contact us at:

As the Christian
Reenactor's Network continues to grow, we especially thank those
of you who have contacted us to get on our ListServ. If you have not
taken the time to contact us, please do! We would truly enjoy meeting
you and finding out about your interests and experiences in reenacting.
As I review our e-mail during the last four months, it is encouraging to
see the potential of our cyber-organization to be a positive faith force
within the hobby.
With this issue we continue our
coverage of the "regression/reincarnation" controversy. The
CRNetwork promises to continue the defense of the Bible in the
wake of the current controversial "past-lives" subject. It is
often very difficult to stand for the Bible's message and also
communicate the proper spirit of congeniality and love. Debate, by its
very nature, tends to amplify tension between those of opposing
viewpoints. Our desire is to allow you to see both sides of this subject
from an informed vantage point. We desire to communicate that it is for
love that God chose to reach down to us
through His Son, Jesus Christ. If you are standing with the Truth of the
Bible, don't hesitate to let your voice be heard among your pards, the
various reenactment publications, and reenactment event organizers! If
this subject is new to you, or if you are curious about what the
Christian "gospel" is, we invite you to explore THE GUIDON.
The 1999 reenacting season is now
upon us. Please let us know of your plans for the year. If you are a
CRNetwork member, you will receive a members' mailing this month with
the names, units, and locations of others who share your spiritual
commitment. If you are reading this and wondering what true Christianity
is all about, don't hesitate to write us!
Have fun this season, remember our
brave soldiers of the past both North and South, and don't forget the
National Day of Prayer on May 6, 1999 . Oh, and please drive carefully
to your events.
Company, dismissed.
