NORTHAMPTON TOWN 1-2 WATFORD
What a pleasant way to spend a balmy
summers evening, a couple of pints in the Sixfields Tavern
laughing at all the Watford fans being turned away by the
Geriatric bouncer. And then a leisurely stroll to my new seat
in the West Stand, which has taken the whole of last season
to wrestle back from the young upstart who tried to nick it,
well you can't now, I've got a Season Ticket.
There was a presentation of Promotion
Medals and a Trophy to the Cobbs from the Nationwide, very
nice but an injection of a vast sum of money would be more
welcome methinks. The numerous Watford fans looked on rather
bemused, they really don't have a lot to celebrate, do they?
I must comment on the dress sense of these creatures, the
Watford "Moody Geezer" is still sporting Henri LLoyd, and
horror of horrors, Ralph Lauren Blousons. Sort yourselves
out Lads!
The Cobbs shaped up with Gabbiadini
and Forrester up front, and five across the back, Frainy was
back at his old Position of Left Back, he's more effective
when he plays in a more central role, as he did last season.
Its obvious that Signor Gabbi has upset Watford at some point
in his illustrious career, everytime he touched the ball he
received taunts of "cheat" he seems to thrive on it, the Watford
players 5 and 6, Palmer and Robinson appeared to have taken
extreme umbrage at Gabbiadinis appearance on the pitch and
spent most of the match attempting to shove him off it. Rugby
is played at Franklins Gardens not Sixfields.
The referee was shocking, Mr Walton
I know you are local, and are maybe afraid of showing bias,
but a foul is a foul is a foul. The Watford defence were allowed
to foul Forrester and Gabbiadini at will, even to the extent
that Forrester was wrestled to the ground in the box, and
Mr Walton blew for a free kick outside it, why? the assistant
referees were as bad.
Watford opened the scoring with a well
worked move, the Cobblers equalised from the aforementioned
freekick, taken by the immortal Frain and put away by the
soon to be Forrester.
The second half produced a lot of pressure
from Watford, and inevitably a goal from the "Edger Davids'
clone, Nordin Wooter, why do these Dutch men have such stupid
hair? he appeared to receive a smack in the mouth from Sammo,
which resulted in the usual "handbags at dawn". Sammo received
taunts from the Watford fans for the rest of the match.
Gabbiadini continued his feud with
the Watford defence, its good to see a Cobblers forward snapping
and growling at the oppositions defence, we,ve been too nice
in previous seasons and its cost us dearly. A run and shot
from Gabbiadini almost led to the equaliser, Forrester followed
up the re-bound but the keeper was able to save it.
All in all it was a fairly entertaining
spectacle, the scoreline does,nt really matter, these games
have very little bearing on the season ahead. All I ask is
that we kill the Pish, it was good to see the new signings
on home turf, messers Gabbiadini and Forrester seemed to work
well together, I for one cannot wait to see them both up front
with big Stevie Howard holding up the ball for both of them
to score goal after goal.
And finally who was that Watford No10..................
not even the Watford fans knew who he was, very strange? oh
and before I forget, Watford won 2-1.
