ROSWELL In July of 1947, it was reported that an alien space craft had crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, and that alien bodies had been recovered. The government quickly denied the story, and indicated that the materials recovered were from a weather balloon. That explanation was later changed, as witnesses to the crash site (who were apparently threatened by the government to remain silent) began to talk years later. It turns out that a top secret military balloon (Project Mogul) was carrying instruments to monitor Soviet nuclear weapon tests. One of those balloons crashed in New Mexico during July 1947, and not a weather balloon. Although the actual crash site was near the very small town of Corona (nothing much there), the larger city of Roswell became famous for attracting alien visitors, and is home of the International UFO Museum and Research Center. Click here to view some pictures we took of the Roswell area. To see more, we recommend the movie "Roswell", which stars Martin Sheen and Dwight Yoakam.
